Petitor Beach Decision Delayed PDF Print
Wednesday, 11 April 2007

Plans to designate  Petitor  in Torbay  as an "official" naturist beach have been deferred to allow residents more time to have their say.

People living near the beach are angry they have only just been consulted about the proposal and claim that it will cause traffic and parking problems.

Torbay Council was to have discussed the proposal to designate the traditionally naturist beach on the 10th of April, but this has now been deferred until June.

A local resident is quoted as saying:

"There has been no local consultation whatsoever. A letter and questionnaire was delivered by hand through local residents' doors on April 5, five days before the meeting and on four of these days the council offices are closed due to the Bank Holiday."

Concerns are said to centre on issues of increased car parking in nearby roads and in an "already overcrowded and congested" cul-de-sac.

It is questionable, however, whether or not designation of the beach - which is far from the most attractive in the area - will really result in a significant increased use of the beach.
