General

Almost one of the most northerly, East Coast beaches in England. Druridge bay is long wide bay stretching from Amble in the north to Cresswell in the south. The naturist section is sandwiched between the Northumberland Coast Country Park and the National Trust section near the village of Druridge, in the centre of the bay. It has been used by Naturists for over 50 years and by Three Rivers Outdoor Club members for at least 30 years.

Getting There

O.S. Map Ref: NZ 276 984 and NZ 27372 97902 (sand dunes)

Travelling north or south on the A1068, turn east on to the minor road at Widdrington towards Duridge. At the point where this road takes a sharp right (south) down the coast, turn left into the National Trust Car Park. Go as far as you can north and park. You can go onto the beach here and walk north until you see the Chevington burn crossing the beach, or go through the gate and follow the path, bearing left until you come to another gate leading on to a tarmac road (The old coal road). Follow this road north until you come to a gate. Take the gate into the field on your right (beware of cows) and follow fence on left. You will need to cross this fence at a low point (well worn in summer) and proceed along the burn to the beach

Description
"A delightful spot" for naturists. A shallow, therefore wide at low tide, sandy beach with dunes behind clean golden sand and unpolluted, but chilly, sea. Being near an area of population and close to Tyneside. Dog walkers and people out for a stroll use this beach to go between the National Trust land and the Country Park.

The beach is private land however and Mr Derek Denny, Chairman of SANER contacted the landowner and was assured that we could use the section from the Chevington burn, south to the mid point between the Chevington burn and the National Trust area as a naturist beach, but he did not want it made an official beach.

Please stay within this area and DO NOT cross over the Chevington burn naked into the Country Park. There are often a number of unaccompanied males gathered near the Chevington burn end of the beach.

Facilities

The unaccompanied males were there in force when I visited, lurking in the dunes, but no naked bodies were to be seen on the beach or near the sea all afternoon. Too afraid of offending clothed walkers who wandered up and down the beach much of the afternoon, I suppose. I just wonder if the blurb about this place isn't too positive. It didn't strike me as a place where naturism could be practised in other than a furtive way which really takes the pleasure from it. It's a pleasant, wide, open strand, certainly, though hopeless for swimming. The beach slopes far too gently for that. You'd have to wade out miles to find deep enough water. I wouldn't describe this as a naturist beach and would advise any visitor to be prepared to be discreet. The unaccompanied males were minding their own business and there was nothing in their behaviour to suggest they were predatory homosexuals though who can tell............?

It is a fair comment by Barebot above, however I have noticed a positive change on my last 2-3 visits! I first visited this beach at 17(13 years ago) and was impressed and heard that naturism was enjoyed there over the years in the most genuine respect. At first I seen couples and a few topless woman outside the naturist area, however as the years went by I noticed unaccompanied males lurking in the area, so we opted for Ross Back Sands. I returned a couple of years back and still the unnacompanied males, so again called it a day on the beach. However recent visits have been better, obviously more males and some clothed people in the area, however two other naturist couples have made us feel more at home. Ive only seen the odd brave person nip down to the water however, but I urge people to give this beach another go as although cautious as I go with my girlfriend, a relaxed time has been enjoyed on recent visits! smilies/cheesy.gif

to many single male voyuers, a shame but it just goes to show the patheticness towards naturism in this country, and how unuse towards nudity people are here.

lol no girls at all to put of by the dressed men with binoculars looking for other men they are spoiling the place for genuine naturists like my self as they stare as you walk past and when you do find a spot there they are with there binoculars and there not looking at birds

Visited here one sunny Friday afternoon in August. Few people about bar 2 guys who seemed more happy to please each other. After a few hours we met another couple, probably in their 50s and were clearly regulars to naturism so they joined us in the sand dunes. They seemed happy to watch as Phil and I had sex in the blazing sun beside them and afterwards we chatted over a flask of tea. Very civilised especially since there were no single guys pestering.
Druridge a great place

I often go to Druridge bay to enjoy the total freedom of naturism and although there may be other men about there is no sense of voyeurism. There are a growing number of naturists making the most of the ideal surroundings, the one thing I worry about is that it will be overused and become to crowded. So may be we should keep it a secret smilies/smiley.gif
