The Strangles is a small rock-bounded cove on the spectacular, rugged Atlantic coastline of Cornwall, about one mile south of Crackington Haven.

Getting There
Access is via unclassified roads leading from the A39(T) with runs roughly North to South from Stratton/Bude (North) to Newquay (South). It can be approached from the North leaving the A39 at Wainhouse Corner or the South leaving the A39 at either Otterham Down or on the B3263

The Northern Route:
Leave the A39 at Wainhouse Corner and head West for Crackington Haven. The road gets quite narrow as you reach Crackington Haven. Drive through the small village and up the hill at the southern side. About one mile further on there is the National Trust property of Trevigue. There is parking by the road side .

The Southern Route:
From the A39 take the B3263 towards the small hamlet of Tresparrett Posts. After passing through this hamlet take the next right turn. Follow this road for approximately two miles until you reach Trevigue.

To the Beach

On the seaward side of the road on the bend there is a footpath leading off towards the cliff top. Take this path which for the first 200 yards is quite flat. Once you leave the enclosed path and step out on to the cliff top you can see the beach below. The descent is mostly moderate with one or two rather exposed parts. The path is quite distinct and can be followed fairly easily. Eventually you arrive at roughly the mid point of the beach. Most naturists tend to turn right towards the Northerly end of the Bay.

Description
The beach is pebbles and shingle with areas of sand at low tide. With cliffs behind and shingle below the sun can be quite hot.. After actually getting to the beach there are two possibilities. During the week a number of naturists congregate towards the northern end of the beach however on 'busy' weekends the Naturists tend to migrate further north a few hundred yards onto the beach known as Little Strand. CARE must be exercised with this option though, as it is possible to get cut off by a high tide. The main beach tends to be fairly liberal even on a busy weekend there are a number of females topless.

Facilities
None at the beach but food and beverages can be obtained at Crackington Haven. Toilets are available there too. Also In the season refreshments are sold at Trevigue.

Water Quality
No information, but remoteness from any major settlement suggests it should be good.

Trip Report
"We have been here both during the week at at a 'busy' weekend. On the weekend visit we saw perhaps a hundred people in various states of dress but did not see any other naturists on the main beach area.

The tide was quite high but I scrambled over the first part of the rocky divide towards the Little Strand where several other people who had had the same idea were waiting (naked) for the tide to go back far enough to get round onto the beach.

Once on Little Strand we had a very enjoyable day with about 20 others. On our mid week visit there were four other naturist couples and literally no textiles everyone was there to enjoy the day naturally. The beach was very peaceful and those who were I think regulars were friendly".
