General

The beach used by naturists at Cefn Sidan is located on the coast of Carmarthen Bay, between Kidwelly and Burry Port.

Getting There

From Llanelli or Carmarthen take the A484 to Pembrey, west of Burry Port. There is a car park at the Pembrey Country Park. From there, walk out to the coast and head west (i.e. turn right) along the beach for about 20 minutes until you reach the section used by naturists.

Alternatively, it  may be possible to reach the naturist section from a Forestry Commision car park located on a lane leading off the A484 midway between Pembrey and Kidwelly.

Description
The beach is clean sand, backed by dunes  the trees of Pembrey Forest and has been described as "a beautiful location for nude sun and sea bathing". However, swimming may be difficult as the sea retreats a long way at low tide and  caution is required as there may be unpredictable currents.

Cefn Sidan has a long history of use by naturists but, because of the size of the beach you may often think you are the only nudist around at the time.

In August 2003 the South Wales Evening Post newspaper reported on some problems at Cefn Sidan:

"Police are stepping up patrols on the beach after being stunned by the bare-faced cheek of local nudists. Cefn Sidan Beach, which straddles Pembrey Country Park, has been thought of by some as a place where nudists can bask in the sun. But police Sergeant Kevin Gandy said: "This is not a designated nudists area. "We are stepping up patrols. Up to now nudists have been warned to cover up but in future they risk being arrested or reported for summons. The police are determined to make the beach a morally safe area."

When the Police enter get into the business of enforcing morality, as opposed to the Law, trouble is in store.

It should remembered that non-sexual nudity, where there is no intention to cause alarm or distress, is not against the law, even in Wales.

Trip Reports

August 2002

"An excellent beach for just lying back and soaking up the sun. Going onto the beach from the main carparks, turn right and walk westward for about 20 minutes until you come to ridge of large stones set between the dunes and high tide waterline. This used to mark the begining of the 'unofficial' nudist area. However, with so many 'peeping-toms' prowling in the sand dunes, many of us have chosen to stop before reaching the ridge of stones.

There is usually an on-shore wind which can be chilly at times. Because of the lack of shops etc., take a supply of drinks with you.

Cars left in the Pembrey Country Park main car parks are fairly safe though cars have been broken into. Hide all items in the boot or out of sight."

2001

"Anyone looking for a good naturist beach in south Wales should try Pembrey Sands between Llanelli and Kidwelly. Park in the country park and walk down onto the beach - miles and miles of clean sand. Walk west for half an hour to reach the unofficially tolerated nude area. Plenty of room for everyone. Walk even further west and have the place to yourself. The tide goes out a long way and the sea is usually calm and warm on a summer day.
Slightly spoiled by a small number of peeping toms lurking in the bushes in the sand dunes at the back of the beach. These men pretend to be sunbathing but spend 99% of their time watching everyone else. Best ignored.

I was there this morning, and can confirm that police do patrol along the beach. The police are using a grey unmarked 4x4, with just a small blue flashing beacon on top - although this was switched off!
Despite it being a cool day, with very few people venturing as far as the naturist end the car stopped near the low water mark directly in line with where I was sitting reading my book. I don't know how long the car had been "watching me" because I was reading. Once I had seen it I guess that it was there for a further 5 minutes or so, until I put my clothes back on again. I would have done this anyway - it was getting too cold!
I didn't see the "No nude sunbathing" signs mentioned, and when I visited 3 or 4 weeks ago there must have been 5 or 6 naturists just enjoying this beautiful beach.
What a wonderful Sunday.

My wife an I spent the day at this beach yesterday, Sunday.
I have read many reports regarding this beach area and feel I should communicate my thoughts.
As a local, I have going to this beach for the last 20 years, and whilst I have read reports, have never seen a police patrol vehicle, the only vehicles I have seen are the local council park warden / beach lifeguards vehicles with loudspeakers and spotlights on top, and fishermen.
As with every naturist beach in the world, you will see voyuers.
We are both smooth and pierced, I have a 10 mm prince albert, whilst not exhibitionist, we do not feel uncomfortable with others looking, if we did we would stay in our garden.
This beach is as good if not better than most including Morfa Duffryn, so I urge you all come and see for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
See you there on the weekend?

In 2007 and in previous years I was a regular visitor, poor weather has kept me away this year. I walk as far North as possible, beyond the rockpile and keep my shorts on while on the beach. It's usually possible to find a place to sunbathe naked in the dunes.

I have seen wardens patrol the beach in white pick up style vehicles but they don't peer into the dunes as far as i could tell. I have seen other nudists near the rockpile, they appeared relaxed and not too concerned about covering up when vehicles approached. Weekdays in Spring early Summer are the best times to visit when you have literally miles of deserted beach and dunes to yourself, if they banned vehicles from the beach it would be a whole lot better because they appear from out of nowhere and are quickly upon you but having said that, there are very few of them in early summer.

My usual haunts for naked days on the beach are all on the Gower peninsula but it's worth making the trip to Pembrey to experience the empty vastness of the beach and sandunes. I have walked nude through the Forest on occasions to reach the northern part of the beach, if you remove your clothes having walked for twenty minutes from the car park you should not meet others on the forest trails and you're getting a tan as you walk.

Very nice here..it's great being on the vast expanse of sand naked -but as someone has said= a vehicle or even helicopter can arrive in seconds.and there ARE no nudity signs and there HAVE BEEN police patrols ..pity..one warning though If you like a dip in the sea (who doesn't) when the tide is out it's OUT along way and shallow when you get there and there are no donkeys to get a lift down to the water's edge, the only donkeys are the boys in the dunes with their dickies twitching.I've met lots of people there and had great fun but not so many women there now but look at the weather this year...
A first visit in 2008 to Cefn Sidan.
written by Beachcomber, September 27, 2008
I made my first visit of 2008 to Pembrey yesterday. The tide was a long way out and the beach was totally deserted at 10.30 in the morning and a slight chill in the air. Because it was so quiet I stripped off and walked naked along the tideline for about three miles, I decided that if I remained alert I could spot the approach of vehicles being so far out and practically invisible to anyone on the inner part of the beach. I must admit I hadn't thought of the authorities using helicopters to keep tabs on nudists.

I later headed for the dunes when I reached a point well beyond the normal range of daytrippers to the country park and there I remained in a hollow, out of the breeze until mid afternoon.

I had not seen a vehicle on the beach or a helicopter in the sky all day so I decided to stay naked as far as possible on my return journey. I passed the area near the rockpile where nudists normally gather and there were a few naked men dotted about in the dunes. I continued naked for a short distance and then put my shorts on as textiles wandered out from the car parks around the country park. I had to walk another half an hour to reach my car and was soon able to return to being fully nude having passed the popular areas.

I had been naked all day apart from the 20 minutes or so passing the country park's parking area. The only people who had seen me naked were other nudists.
I hope there will be other opportunities to return to Cefn Sidan beach this year, I can recommend it as a fantastic place to enjoy the outdoors, space and sunshine.
