How Does BN Spend Members Subscriptions? PDF Print

Britain's largest naturist organisation was created in 1964 when rivals The British Sunbathing Society and the British Federation of Sun Clubs agreed to join forces. The merged group was given the title The Central Council for British Naturism or CCBN for short.

BN's membership is presently around 13,000. More details of BN's membership numbers can be found HERE.

The organisation's income is derived principally from subscriptions (91.5%) - approximately a tenth of which is Sun Club affiliation fees. Other sources of income include sales of goods (1.9%), advertising income (4.2%) and interest on deposits and donations (2.4%)

In the year ended December 2005 - the most recent figures available - BN's total net income was £282,330 made up as follows:

Category Income (£)
Subscriptions 258,426
Sale of Goods 5,249
Advertising 11,745
Interest and Donations 6,910
Total Net Income 282,330

This income was spent in the following areas:

Expenditure Amount (£)

BN Magazine 44,908
Sports & Youth Activities 15,822

In 2005 BN's expenditure exceeded their income by £49,934 and almost sixty percent of spending was taken up by the organisation's running expenses.

In contrast, the budget for the BN Executive Council member responsible for promoting and defending naturist beaches and other public open spaces (the Research & Liaison Officer) was just £928.
