Naturist Photography Books PDF Print

Author's Note: This page needs some research.

For the time being, the only book recommended is Ed Lange's Nudist Nudes (1991, Elysium Growth Press, ISBN 1 55599 043 6, currently available from CCBN at £11.50 including p&p).

Nudist Nudes contains virtually no text, but the collection of monochrome images of American nudism from the 1940s through to the 1960s is worth a look. See whether you find the pictures conveying something of what naturism means to you, and consider how you would have tackled Ed Lange's subjects and situations.

Although there is, for most people, a clear distinction between glamour photography and nude photography - as well as between both those categories and naturist photography - "how-to" books on glamour and/or nude photography can be very helpful. Both those disciplines pay significant attention to capturing skin tone and appropriate lighting, exposure, filtering, etc. Examples of books from these two fields are John Hedgecoe's The Workbook of Nudes and Glamour (1985, Mitchell Beazley, ISBN 0 85533 943 8), John Hedgecoe's Figure and Form, Photographing the Nude (1996, Collins and Brown, ISBN 1 85585 240 3) and Michael Busselle's Nude & Glamour Photography (1987, Macdonald & Co, ISBN 0 7481 0019 9).

US company Internaturally, Inc. runs an on-line shop with a wide selection of books featuring nudity. I leave it to others to decide whether the content justifies its title of "Naturist Photography Books". In the UK, online shopping for books of nude/naturist images is possible from both H&E and CCBN.
